Miranda Lambert’s revenge tale shoots up chart
Star Miranda Lambert says she is shocked pleasantly so that her domestic abuse tale Gunpowder and Lead has become her first top 10 entry on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
The song is not your typical country fare, even in a format that has embraced prostitution Fancy,” the Bobbie Gentry song later covered by Reba McEntire and vengeful murder Garth Brooks’The Thunder Rolls.
The lyrics would make rapper Lil Kim proud — “Slapped my face and he shook me like a rag doll, don’t that sound like a real man/I’m going to show him what a little girl’s made of, gunpowder and lead.”
“It was very shocking to me,” says Lambert, who wrote the song with Heather Little. “It’s the most controversial song I’ve put out so far and it gets to the top 10. I thought it would be (last single) ‘Famous in a Small Town’ or something not so threatening.”Famous” reached No. 14 in November, topping previous best Kerosene,” the title track from her 2005 debut album, which peaked at No. 15 in March 2006.
The song’s subject matter is “a bit rough,” says Bruce Logan, program director for country station WKKT in Charlotte, N.C., but he adds “the audience is smarter than we give them credit for. All the people who love the song aren’t gun-toting crazies about to off a loved one. They enjoy the song for the attitude, performance, and it’s fun.”
Weekly sales of Lambert’s current album, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” have more than doubled since the single was released. In January, it averaged 4,400 units weekly; in the four weeks ended July 13, it averaged 9,400 units. The album, with total sales of nearly 490,000 copies, soared 13 places to No. 55 on the latest Billboard 200. “Kerosene” has sold more than 930,000 copies.
While “Gunpowder” is still climbing the charts, Lambert says she hopes her next single, “More Like Her,” will show her fans that she has another side.
“I don’t want it always to be about the in-your-face, tough-chick songs, because that’s not all of me,” she says. “I also have a different, softer side, and I want for people to hear that.”

All-Star baseball game strikes out in ratings
NEW YORK
When the American and National League face off in Tuesday’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game in New York, there will be fewer people watching than there were the last time Yankee Stadium was the host in 1977. Last year’s game drew 12.5 million viewers, the smallest audience for the “Midsummer Classic” since at least 1970. With the exception of the 2006 game in Pittsburgh, which bucked the trend, the ratings have fallen since 2001.

John Woo goes into battle with epic “Red Cliff”
HONG KONG
As the first film to re-create the Battle of Chibi in 208 A.D., the most famous military feat in Chinese history, John Woo’s “Red Cliff” is a Pan-Asian project with the word “monumental” written all over it. The 140-minute first half that opened across major Asian territories provides the beams and columns for the narrative framework, but with a few decisive and spot-on action spectacles, it sufficiently kindles expectations for the climactic clash in Part 2. The Western version will be a shorter, condensed one.

RedOctane execs on a roll with “Guitar Hero”
DENVER
There were a lot of questions surrounding the “Guitar Hero” videogame when it first came out. Would gamers agree to pony up extra money for the special guitar-shaped controller needed to play it? Would the music industry agree to license master tracks? Would the addition of downloadable content be successful? The answer to all those questions has turned out to be a resounding yes. “Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock” has sold more than 8 million copies, and the franchise has sold more than 20 million songs through its downloadable content store.
Masked rockers Slipknot bring ‘Hope’ to Mayhem
LOS ANGELES Billboard
The moment is burned into the mind of Roadrunner Records president Jonas Nachsin. It was 1999, and his label had convinced Ozzfest organizers to put its newly signed band, Slipknot, on the festival’s second stage. Curious to see the band in action before the release of its debut album, Nachsin took a drive to New Jersey, where Ozzfest was playing at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. While hard rock acts Black Sabbath, Slayer, Rob Zombie, System of a Down, Deftones and Godsmack attracted the masses, then-unknown Slipknot took the side stage before a respectable audience of about 200.

Lindsay Looking to Nip Bodyguard Suit in the Bud
Los Angeles Lindsay Lohan wants to make the bodyguard she says she never knew go away. The starlet’s legal camp is looking to settle a lawsuit brought against her by David Kim, who claims Lohan owes him more than $55,000 for his time spent as part of her security detail, according to court documents filed by both parties.Detailing all sorts of thankless little extras he says he provided while on the job, Kim sued Lohan and her Crossheart Productions on April 7 for fraud, breach of oral contract, intentional infliction of emotional distress and various California Labor Code violations.
Meanwhile, the Mean Girls star maintains she doesn’t know Kim and, subsequently, never employed him, either.
But in his complaint, Kim says Crossheart hired him in October 2006 to protect Lohan for either $4,000 per week for 24/7 security or $2,800 for p.m. policing only. Aside from going unpaid for his services, he claims that, during the six months he worked for the actress, he incurred about $10,000 in out-of-pocket expenses for mileage, valet tips and other chauffeur-related expenses while ferrying Lohan between home and…wherever.
He also personally arranged for extra security and VIP tables at clubs and events to shield Lohan from the madding crowd and sustained $1,470 in damages that November when Lohan’s driver rammed into his car while making an illegal right turn to avoid paparazzi.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ernest Hiroshige has given Lohan and Crossheart until June 30 to file a response to the suit, but her team seems eager to wipe this case from the docket as soon as possible.
The dueling parties are “presently continuing to exchange settlement proposals…to attempt to resolve [the case],” lawyers for both sides wrote in their latest court filing.

Jessica’s Country Cover
Los Angeles Expect to see a little southern comfort to grace the cover of Jessica Simpson’s new country album. No, not the booze.she’ll likely be dressed in a cowboy hat and boots for the CD cover.”This is her first country album, and she wanted to send home the message that despite her previous pop stuff, she’s just a country girl at heart,” the pal says.Jessica posed for pics in Nashville on Monday in a cover shoot that included lots of cowgirl shots (in jeans and cutoffs), as well as glam-girl pics, according to our insider.
“They wanted a mix of stuff to choose from,” says the insider. “But she is pushing for the simple country cowgirl-type thing.”
Jessica’s mom, Tina, was on set, but the men in her life (daddy Joe and beau Tony) were both absent. And that’s a good thing, says Jessica’s pal.
“She’s got enough pressure on her,” her friend says. “She doesn’t need the men all tense around her. She’s got so much hope pinned on this country record. She thinks this could reinvent her and finally give her the respect she’s never had in the music industry. She simply can’t live with Newlyweds as her only lasting legacy.”

Actress Natalie Portman in Rwanda for genocide orphans project
Klgali Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman is in Rwanda shooting a clip to promote a Jewish-funded youth village for children orphaned by the 1994 genocide, officials said. “The American film star is currently in Rwanda shooting a film on the genocide,” an official close to the ministry of culture condition of anonymity. The young Hollywood star arrived quietly in the genocide-scarred central African country earlier this week.
Israeli media has reported that the clip she is shooting about the new village will be aired in a few weeks on the Oprah Winfrey Show, America’s best-rated television programme.
The village, funded by American Jewish donors, will be developed along the lines of Israeli youth villages created for orphaned Holocaust survivors.
It is due to be inaugurated in August.
An estimated 800,000 people, mainly Tutsis and moderate Hutus, were massacred in Rwanda in 1994.
Portman visited Rwanda in June last year for a ceremony in which 23 baby mountain gorillas were given names by celebrities in a bid to boost the country’s conservation efforts and the tourism industry.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame was in Jerusalem last month to attend celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Israel’s creation. The two countries have enjoyed strong ties in recent years.

Britney gets sun and rest in Costa Rica beach
SAN JOSE A bikini-clad Britney Spears got her picture taken this weekend while relaxing and soaking up the sun on a Costan Rican beach where she was reportedly staying at actor Mel Gibson's property.
She did it again," the La Nacion daily said Sunday in a play on Spears' 1999 chart-busting hit "Oops! ... I Did It Again."
"At five minutes to midday (Saturday), the artist appeared on scene on an ATV (all terrain vehicle) driving from the home of Mel Gibson, who invited her to spend a few days in Costa Rica" at his 163-hectare (402-acre) spread in the Pacific coast resort town of Samara, the daily said.
The story included several photos of the troubled pop star on Barrigona beach, in a bikini and sunglasses.
Spears was in the company of her father, Jamie Spears -- who apparently told the paparazzi they could shoot all they wanted as long as they kept at a 50-meter (yard) distance -- and a young couple, the daily said.
Gibson or his wife, Robyn Moore, were nowhere to be seen, it added.
Spears, 26, appears happier since a Los Angeles court on May 6 gave her more visitation time with her two children, who are in the custody of her ex-husband Kevin Federline since the couple split in 2006, amid her spiraling personal problems and fears for her mental health.
Spears shot to superstardom in late 1998 with her smash-hit debut album "Baby One More Time," which she followed with another chart-topping success the following year, "Oops! ... I Did It Again

Ashlee and Pete's Inside Wedding
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz got hitched Saturday night under tents and amid tight security, but E! News has an insider's account of the top-secret wedding ceremony and reception.
The ceremony was held in the backyard of parents Joe and Tina Simpson, decorated in an Alice in Wonderland theme.
It was magical and beautiful," says the guest, who termed the whole affair "The Joe Simpson Show. After escorting Ashlee down the aisle, Joe Simpson regaled the 100-plus guests with funny and touching stories of his daughter before performing the brief ceremony himself. The elder Simpson got choked up throughout the ceremony, as did Ashlee and Jessica. "They were all crying," says the source. "It was very moving."
Seeming to acknowledge the challenges of marrying into the Simpson family, at one point Joe quipped, "Pete is a very patient guy."
Ashlee wore an ivory Monique Lhuillier gown with a veil for the ceremony, while the bridesmaids were draped in black Vera Wang numbers. The men wore black tuxes with skinny black ties. Guests had been asked to wear dark clothing, and most everyone did, with attire ranging from black jeans and sports coats to fancy black tuxes and dresses.
The reception and dinner followed.
Jessica and Tony Romo sat at the wedding party table, but the guest observes, "Jessica did not look happy the entire night. She just wasn't her bubbly self. She was very subdued, and she and Tony barely interacted the entire night, except for some dancing at the end.
"You could tell she was really happy for her sister, but that maybe she was a little bit sad that things aren't working out as well for her."
Jessica did, however, give a very emotional, off-the-cuff speech toast, saying that Pete and Ashlee's relationship "has inspired [her] to love again" and spoke very affectionately of her little sister.
"She apologized for not writing anything more formal," the guest says, "but it was very much from the heart."
Wentz's brother also gave a toast.
The guest says that for a wedding of two musicians it was subdued, with a DJ and no band. "It was weird. No one was dancing. There was like nobody on the dance floor until after they cut the cake, and then people finally danced." After taking photos, the bride livened up and slipped into a "sexy black party dress" and danced. "She managed to hide her pregnancy pretty well," the source says. "She really didn't look pregnant."
Guests were required to check their cell phones and cameras outside the tent. "You could step out and make a call, but you had to check the phone in before returning back inside. It wasn't a big deal. Everyone there gets it." The reception did experience some drama. At one point later in the night, Ashlee lost one of her diamond earrings. "Pete got on the mic and told everyone to look for the earring," the guest says. "He said they cost more than the entire wedding!" Within a few minutes, a guest found the missing bling.
By about 1:30 a.m., the reception had died down and most guests had left. "It was beautiful. It was truly intimate...friends and family only. It wasn't a Hollywood wedding at all," says the attendee.

Castro overrated Underwood most popular Idol
LOS ANGELES Country singer Carrie Underwood is the all-time most popular "American Idol" winner, and dreadlocked Jason Castro was voted the most overrated contestant this season, according to a poll released on Monday by AOL Television.
With the most watched U.S. television show reaching its climax this week, finalists David Archuleta, 17, and David Cook, 25, are running neck and neck in terms of best performances of the seventh season, according to the poll.
Archuleta's rendering of John Lennon's "Imagine" in February was rated best of the season by 35 percent of those taking part, with Cook's rock version of the Michael Jackson hit "Billie Jean" in March also getting 35 percent.
The AOL Television poll, conducted May 9-16, received more than 1.3 million votes.
Underwood, the 2005 "American Idol" winner who went on to win Grammy, American Music, Billboard and Country Music Association awards, was voted the most popular "Idol" by 54 percent of those taking part.
Kelly Clarkson, who won the first season in 2002, was second with 26 percent of votes.
Castro, the mellow guitar-playing Texan who made it to the final four round of contestants this year, topped the list of most overrated singers of the 2008 season with 28 percent of votes. Some 35 percent rated his performance of the Bob Dylan classic "Mr. Tambourine Man," in which Castro flubbed the lyrics, the worst of the year.
An overwhelming majority -- 63 percent -- thought that contestants who had record deals in the past should not be allowed to compete on the Fox network show. The thumbs-down reflected the controversy over sixth-placed Irish singer Carly Smithson, 24, who got her second chance to make a career in the music industry after a record deal nine years ago went nowhere.
Australian Michael Johns, 29, was considered the 2008 "Idol" loser most likely to make good, despite being eliminated five weeks ago.
Some 63 percent said they had purchased contestant performances from iTunes -- the first year that music from the show has been available for download from the online service during "American Idol" broadcasts.
Archuleta and Cook will sing for the 2008 "American Idol" title and a recording contract on Tuesday. The winner will be announced in Hollywood on Wednesday.

Another celebrity is finished `Dancing With the Stars'
LOS ANGELES - Shannon Elizabeth won't have to shed any more tears over "Dancing With the Stars. The 34-year-old actress, who cried at the judges' harsh remarks last week, was eliminated Tuesday from the ABC dance-off.
"The show has been amazing. I've learned a lot," she said as her professional partner, Derek Hough, stood by her side. "I've made a friend for life, and hopefully a bunch of friends for life, and I'll be here to support everyone as much as I can."
Hough said he "couldn't have asked for more" from a partner.
"She really is a big dork," he said, "but I love that."
The pair earned 51 out of 60 points for their two dances Monday. Judges loved the couple's tango, calling it Elizabeth's "best dance by far." But their mambo didn't fare as well, with the judges describing Elizabeth as "gawky," "gangly" and "awkward."
The actress' elimination breaks a three-week trend of the show's lowest scorers leaving the ballroom.
Cristian de la Fuente came into Tuesday's show in last place, losing points Monday after he hurt his arm and dropped partner Cheryl Burke to the floor during their samba performance. He left the set during the live broadcast and was taken to the hospital.
On Tuesday, de la Fuente reported that he had ruptured a tendon in his biceps and would need surgery to repair it, but that he planned to delay the operation so he could continue dancing.
"If people voted for us and they would like us to be on the show, I would like to continue and not give up," he said.
Judges' scores are combined with viewer votes to determine which couple is eliminated each week.
Tuesday's show also featured a performance by '80s rockers Def Leppard, who sang their classic hit "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and their new single, "Nine Lives."
Former "Dancing With the Stars" contestants Jerry Rice and Kenny Mayne added a dose of silliness to the results show with their "DanceCenter" segment, a parody of ESPN's "SportsCenter."
Wearing glitter on his eyes, Mayne cracked on the season's remaining contestants, calling Kristi Yamaguchi "a robot" and claiming Jason Taylor "has a flatulence problem."
Five celebrity contestants remain, including Taylor, Yamaguchi, de la Fuente, R&B singer Mario and Broadway star Marissa Jaret Winokur.
Marlee Matlin, Priscilla Presley, Adam Carolla, Steve Guttenberg, Monica Seles and Penn Jillette have already been eliminated.

'Brothers & Sisters,' 'Ugly Betty' win GLAAD awards again
LOS ANGELES - Two ABC series were in repeats — as winners — at the annual awards honoring good work in media presentations of gays and lesbians. "Brothers & Sisters" and "Ugly Betty" received awards for outstanding drama and comedy series during the 19th annual Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards at the Kodak Theatre on Saturday night.
Both shows, which feature openly gay or transsexual regular characters, received the same awards last year from GLAAD.
On "Brothers & Sisters," Matthew Rhys plays Kevin, a lawyer sibling whose dating life is frequently depicted on the drama. "Ugly Betty" features Marc St. James, the flamboyantly gay assistant played by Michael Urie, as well as Alexis Meade, the transsexual editor played by Rebecca Romijn.
Other winners included Bravo's "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List" for outstanding reality program, Janet Jackson for the Vanguard Award and Rufus Wainwright for the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, in honor of the late casting director who fought homophobia in the entertainment industry.
According to GLAAD, the awards honor individuals and projects in media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. The awards are split into four ceremonies, held in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and San Francisco in March, April and May.
Kate Middleton takes her fitness fetish to Clarence House
Prince William's girlfriend, Kate Middleton, has had a well equipped gym installed at Clarence House, the royal home in London on the Mall that is the official residence of The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Princes William and Harry.
Since being given access to it, Kate, spends most of her time at Clarence House, though she continues to own an apartment in Chelsea where she lives with her sister Pippa.
"Kate has all her things there and asked William and Harry if they would allow her to build a gym," a Royal aide told Daily Mail
"She works out for at least an hour a day and loves to stay slim and toned. She and Pippa use the gym all the time because it has great equipment and it's completely private.
"She has even had William and Harry doing crunches and press-ups.

Miley Cyrus striking provocative poses surface
Photos of Miley Cyrus teasingly pulling her tank top down to expose a fledgling cleavage and green underwear, and wearing a midriff revealing short top, lying in the lap of a young male, have surfaced on the internet.
In both the photos the 15-year-old Hannah Montana star, who routinely espouses her love for Jesus Christ, is seen with an inviting (to jail?) look on her face.
An earlier set of photos, posted over the internet in January, had shown Miley posing in underwear. The photos were believed to have been hacked from Miley's Myspace page.
Time will tell if the risqué photos represent Miley's coming to terms with her sexuality or are manifestation of a malaise that is Britneyesque.

Iglesias says Kournikova keeps rebuffing marriage proposals
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic Spanish pop singer Enrique Iglesias says he has tried repeatedly to convince his girlfriend Anna Kournikova to marry him — with no luck.
Iglesias spoke to reporters Friday after arriving in the Dominican Republic for the first of nine concerts planned across Latin America.
Iglesias says he's been involved with the tennis star for at least three years and says she keeps ignoring his appeals to wed. In his words, "I always try, but she pays me no attention."
The Madrid-born artist is the son of crooner Julio Iglesias.
Wedding celebrity
New York - Think getting married is a solemn and staid affair, and a traditional white gown the only option? For brides looking for a gown with more whimsy and character than the average off-the-rack number, Reem Acra is the designer to seek out.
Each season, Acra invents a charming new narrative for her bridal collection, with memorable gowns that offer a unique vision for the big day.
"This collection is about looking 20 years down the road," said Acra at the presentation for her Spring 2009 bridal collection on Sunday, April 13 at her New York showroom. "It's about the future. What's going to happen to my dresses? The young girls are going to go into their mother's closet and play with them. It's about having fun!"
To that end, models were placed in various tableaux vivant, where they had tea parties, lounged on furniture, played with dolls or simply smiled with a mischievous gleam in their eyes, as though they were girls who had just raided the attic were playing dress-up, as Edith Piaf's voice filled the room. In Acra's program notes, dresses referred to characters like Alice in Wonderland, Raggedy Ann, Strawberry Shortcake and Sleeping Beauty.
Acra took inspiration from her own closet, she said, from her personal collection of vintage clothing. And even one of Acra's earliest gowns, her first design from 1996, was on display with a pint-sized bride and groomed snacking on lollipops.
Acra does not shy away from bold color in her collections, and for Spring 2009, the gowns featured pops of color layered over the white gowns, like sheer teal sleeves, a red gingham apron/frock, a circular yellow and black polka-dot skirt over another, or a red yarn wrap. The message was clear: Have fun and don't take anything too seriously.

Sandra Bullock, husband unhurt in car accident
WASHINGTON - A car carrying actress Sandra Bullock and her husband, Jesse James, was hit by a drunk driver, but no one involved in the accident was hurt, People magazine has reported on its website.
The magazine said Saturday that the accident occurred late Friday in Gloucester, Massachusetts, where Bullock is filming "The Proposal on Cape Ann."
Bullock and her husband were being driven home at around 9:50 pm when a gray Subaru station wagon jumped lanes and smashed into the front end of their car.
"They were shaken up, needless to say," People quoted Gloucester Police Lieutenant Gerry Cook as saying. "But they were fine."
The driver of the Subaru, identified as Lucille Gatchell, 64, was administered a field sobriety test and showed two and a half times the legal limit of alcohol in her blood, the report said.
Blanchett baby steals show at Australia's 'big ideas' summit
SYDNEY - Actress Cate Blanchett's six-day-old son stole the limelight from more than 1,000 of Australia's top citizens Saturday at a summit aimed at generating fresh policy ideas for the future. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd called the 2020 summit of what he termed Australia's "best and brightest" in Canberra to encourage innovative ideas after his election last November ended almost 12 years of conservative rule.
The theme of the meeting is "thinking big" but it was Blanchett's tiny son Ignatius Martin Upton, born last Sunday, who was the focus of attention ahead of the opening ceremony in Parliament House.
The 38-year-old Oscar-winner beamed as she posed with her newborn, who displayed his mother's knack for a scene stealing performance.
Blanchett's fellow Hollywood star Hugh Jackman, another summit attendee, praised the actress for her determination to take part in the event, where she will coordinate debate on creative arts, so soon after childbirth.
"Cate Blanchett is superwoman ... she is amazing on every level, I think she is flawless as a person and I am thrilled that she is leading our stream," Jackman said.
Rudd visited Blanchett in hospital in Sydney Tuesday to check if she still felt up to attending the summit but said she was adamant she would be there.
At Saturday's launch, the prime minister said the government wanted "big ideas" to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
"We're trying to do something new," Rudd said.
"Today we're throwing open the windows of our democracy to let a bit of fresh air in.
"Rather than pretending that we the politicians of Australia have all the answers, and the truth is we don't, we are turning now to you the people of Australia."
He called on the summit's 10 discussion groups to each submit one major proposal and three concrete policy ideas, pledging that the government would respond to the suggestions by the end of the year.
"Some of these ideas we will be able to embrace, others we will not, and some we will take in part and change," he said.
Swift joins icons on cover of 'Rolling Stone'
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - If Taylor Swift didn't get enough excitement this week with her two Country Music Television awards, she got another shot when she learned she'd be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine's "The Best of Rock 2008" issue.
"Am I dreaming? Somebody pinch me, because I cannot believe what has happened this week!" Swift told The Associated Press on Friday, the day the magazine hit newsstands.
"To say it's overwhelming does not even cover it. I was so blown away by such an incredible night at the CMT awards, and then to find out the next day that I'm on the cover of Rolling Stone with Madonna, Bono and Springsteen! No way. I am completely in awe."
Swift is the only country artist included in the magazine's "Best of Rock" issue.
"The 18-year-old country-pop sensation — a one-time Abercrombie and Fitch model raised on a Christmas tree farm in rural Pennsylvania — is equally appealing to tween girls (who can relate to TRL-dominating songs like 'Teardrops on My Guitar') and grown men (those legs)," reads the article under the heading "Best Country Lolita."
"I don't care how people look at me," Swift told Rolling Stone. '`As long as they look at me."
At Monday's CMT awards, Swift won video of the year and female video for her smash "Our Song," a tune she wrote in the 9th grade for a talent show.
She leads the field of female nominees for next month's Academy of Country Music Awards with three nominations: top female vocalist, album of the year and top new female vocalist.
Swift's 2006 self-titled debut, on which she wrote or co-wrote all 11 songs, has sold nearly 3 million copies.

Carrie Underwood Confirms Chase Split
Country star Carrie Underwood has confirmed she and actor Chase Crawford have split.
The singer insists she has no hard feelings towards the Gossip Girl star, who dumped Underwood by text message.
She says, “It was completely mutual. We’re both fine. We broke up over text so it’s like ‘Peace out.’”
“It just didn’t work. We both knew it didn’t work and no hard feelings at all whatsoever… It’s no big deal.” And Underwood, who has previously dated Jessica Simpson’s new man Tony Romo, admits celebrity dating isn’t always fun: “It’s difficult while you’re dating because people always make a lot bigger deal of things than they actually are.”
Mischa Barton To ‘Accept Drunk-Driving Plea Deal’
Actress Mischa Barton will avoid jail by accepting a plea deal in her drink-driving case, according to new reports.
The former The O.c. star was charged with Dui, possession of marijuana and driving without a licence in February, following an arrest in West Hollywood in December.
But Barton will plead no contest to Dui at her arraignment in a Beverly Hills, California court on Thursday, according to People.com, and will, in return, serve a three-year unsupervised probation term. The 22-year-old will also be fined $1,700 and face a three-month alcohol-education class. The marijuana charge will be dropped and the driving without a licence charge will be reduced to an infraction, reports the website.

Ashlee Simpson's baby pictures up for sale for $1 million!
As her father, Joe Simpson was probably reluctant to accept Pete Wentz as Ashlee Simpson's fiancé in preparation for a shotgun wedding in May, but as her business manager he was probably delighted with the news about the bun in the oven.
He is astute enough to know that there is money to be made from the sale of photos of the baby that, ironically, no one has officially acknowledged exists.
"Joe is contacting all the weeklies and asking them to pony up $1 million to put Ashlee on the cover," a magazine source told Pagesix.com.
Considering that People magazine recently paid $1 million for photos of Harlow, daughter of Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Joe is probably not being ambitious with his price. Besides he is making the package very attractive, or self serving if you may.
"The deal would include photos of Ashlee - taken by Joe, of course, so he can make more money - an interview and photos of the baby when she has it," the source says.
So far there are no takers. One magazine editor feels the price is way too high - "$60,000 maybe - but definitely not a million!"
Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson plan to wed in May at a friend's residence in La Jolla, Calif., north of San Diego, a source close to the family told People recently.
Jennifer Lopez looking gorgeous in New York City
Looking at Jennifer Lopez leaving Waverly Inn in New York City with husband Marc Anthony after attending a birthday party for Georgina Chapman on Monday, April 14, it was difficult to imagine that she delivered twins just a month and a half back.
Lopez wore a solar yellow color shift dress with three fourth length banded sleeves and boat neck. She accessorized with large gold hoops in the ears and a chunky white bangle on her right wrist. She wore white pumps and carried a white clutch. She left her light brown hair open falling over her shoulders looking carefree and gorgeous.
Her first children, fraternal twins named Max and Emme, were born on February 22, 2008, and baptized Saturday, April 12.
Aishwarya Rai is not doing 'Lajjo'
Aishwarya Rai's business manager Hari Singh has refuted a Mumbai tabloid report that Aishwarya and South superstar Vikram have replaced Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan in Mani Ratnam's Lajjo
"Aishwarya is committed for one film with Mani Ratnam. As far as Lajjo is concerned she hasn't signed this film. She is looking forward to doing Mani's next film which also stars Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role," Singh told Indiatimes
The film starring Abhishek and Aishwarya, an intense love story based on real life characters, is set to roll in September.
Its scripting is yet to be completed but Abhishek and Aishwarya have signed up, because in the past Mani Ratnam has given them crucial breaks that have turned around their careers.
Aishwarya debuted in Ratnam's Iruvar (1997), and his Yuva (2004) revived Abhishek's sagging Bollywood career.
More recently Guru (2007) established Abhishek and Aishwarya as a successful onscreen pairing for the first time.

Final Adoption Hearing Set: Madonna
Los Angeles ( Madonna and child are one step closer to formalizing their bond. A Malawi court clerk has confirmed that the final ruling in her and Guy Ritchie's adoption proceedings of son David Banda will take place in two weeks' time.
A court clerk told Reuters that the case was "tentatively" scheduled to be heard on April 22, 23 and 25.
The hearing, which Madonna is not required to attend, was postponed from this week by request of the pop star, who had a scheduling conflict in the U.S., likely connected to promotion of her new album, Hard Candy.
Things are looking good for the superstar couple, who first picked up 2-year-old David from a Malawi orphanage back in October 2006.
On March 25, a report filed by a probation officer at the Ministry of Women and Child Development gave its blessing to Malawi's High Court to grant final approval for the Richies to take permanent custody of the boy, citing the bang-up parenting job the London-based couple had done over the past year and a half.
"In the best interest of the child, I do recommend the petitioners to your Lordship for your consideration that they be granted an adoption order having proved that they are suitable parents and satisfied the conditions in the Interim Adoption Order," the report read.
Unfortunately, the duo's bid for permanent custody has not been without controversy.
A spokesperson for the Human Rights Consultative Committee, which once attempted to launch a legal challenge to the adoption, on Friday again voiced their concerns with the possible completion of the proceedings.
Maxwell Matewere urged the court on behalf of the committee to set up "tough guidelines," should it grant the adoption, in order to deter potential abuse of the precedent set for foreign adoptions.
"Others might apply to adopt and use the Madonna case to justify adoption, and yet they could be illegal adoptions for trafficking, organs and sexual exploitation," he said.
The nation is in the process of updating its laws in order to better facilitate foreign adoptions for its more than 1 million orphans.
Britney remarks Mother' star clarifies
NEW YORK - "How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris wants to set the record straight: "Britney did a great job on the show.
"In fact, we are all hoping that she returns rather soon to reprise her role," he said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly's web site about Spears' cameo on the show.
Harris was responding to a story featuring earlier comments he made to The Associated Press. Asked in that interview, "why does such a gem of a show need Britney to get any attention," he responded, "I'm in the minority that our show does not need stunt casting in order to succeed.
"We've done a good three and three-quarter seasons with guest stars that we feel like are exactly perfect for the characters that (were) written ... by the crack writing staff," Harris told a reporter visiting the set of the Monday night CBS sitcom. "I worry that if they start 'Will and Gracing' us too much, that the show will suffer. And we're all really proud of the content of the show. I mean viewership is not our game. It's the network and the studio's game, you know. It's the promotion department's game. We wish we weren't opposite an awkward reality dancing competition. But we have no say about that. I just am a real fan of our content. I think we have a great show going and I hope it's not screwed up by the desire for 700,000 more viewers."
In his statement Friday, Harris said that "a writer took some quotes of mine and speculated an opinion about their intent."
The original AP story stated that Harris believed Spears should not appear on the program any more.
"I am just very protective of our show, and its content. I have a high standard of quality, and hope to maintain it on every level. Television is big business, I understand that. I have great faith in our casting department, as well as (Twentieth Century Fox Television) and CBS, to find the appropriate person for every role on our show. I was remiss in speculating otherwise."
Spears has been the most high-profile guest star on "Mother," following appearances by Mandy Moore, Enrique Iglesias and Heidi Klum. Her well-reviewed March 24 cameo as a bubbly receptionist drew 10.6 million viewers, up 1 million from the previous week. The show has averaged 8 million viewers per episode this season, including reruns.
The show concluded with Spears' secretary flirting with Barney, the scene-stealing womanizer played by Harris.
